Products covered by this recall
This recall involves the Scotch™ thermal laminator, model number TL1302Z. The laminator is light gray/white with gray accents and the word "Scotch" is printed in gray on the front. The laminating slot is approximately 13 inches wide, and the machine has a carrying handle on the right side of the machine when viewing from the front. The model number TL1302Z is located on the sticker on the bottom of the laminator and can also be found on the product packaging.
What to do with this product now
CPSC recalls are issued because the product can injure someone, very often a child. The safest first move is to put it out of reach rather than to carry on using it carefully.
- Stop using the product and move it somewhere a child or pet cannot reach it. Do not pass it on, resell it or donate it — reselling a recalled product is illegal in the United States.
- Check the model number, date code and any markings against the details above. Photograph them; almost every claim form asks for a picture.
- Follow the remedy the notice specifies. Some recalls want the product returned, some want a free repair kit fitted, and some ask you to destroy the item and send a photo as proof.
- Register the recall with the company before you destroy anything, unless their instructions say otherwise. Once the item is gone you may lose the evidence a refund depends on.
- If the product already hurt someone, file a report at SaferProducts.gov. Those reports are public and are how the CPSC spots the next hazard.
Claiming your refund, repair or replacement
The recalling company decides the remedy and funds it. You should never have to pay for a recall repair or for return shipping.
- Use the company contact on this page first. Most firms run a dedicated recall page with an online claim form that is far quicker than their main support line.
- Have the model number, the date code and your photos ready. Many companies issue the refund as store credit by default — ask for cash or a card reversal if you would rather have it.
- No receipt? Say so. Refunds on recalled products are routinely paid without proof of purchase, because the hazard, not your paperwork, is what triggers the obligation.
- If you bought it from a retailer rather than the brand, try both. Large chains such as Target, Walmart and Amazon often refund recalled goods directly from the store or order history.
- If the company stops responding, escalate to the CPSC. Firms under a recall order have reporting duties to the agency and the pressure usually works.
Remedy named in the notice: Consumers should stop using and unplug the recalled thermal laminators immediately and contact 3M Company to receive a full refund. Consumers will be asked to fill out the online recall registration form at https://www.scotchbrand.com/3M/en_US/scotch-brand/tl1302Z-laminator-recall/, confirm that their laminator is included in the recall and upload a photograph of the laminator with the unplugged power cord cut. The refund, in the form of a check, will be mailed to the consumer upon receipt of the completed form and confirmation that the laminator's power cord has been cut. Consumers should dispose of the recalled laminator in accordance with local and state laws governing electronics recycling.
Company contact: 3M Company toll-free at 800-772-4337 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, online at https://www.scotchbrand.com/3M/en_US/scotch-brand/tl1302Z-laminator-recall/ or www.scotchbrand.com and click on "Recall Information" at the top of the page for more information.
