Papablic, of USA Convertible Bedside Sleepers recall: Risk of Serious Injury or Death from Entrapment

Recall published 10 days ago

Risk of Serious Injury or Death from Entrapment, Suffocation and Fall Hazards; Violate Mandatory Standard for Play Yards

The hazard

The bedside sleepers with play yard extensions violate the mandatory safety standard for play yards because the mattress can become displaced, causing a baby to become entrapped between the sleeping pad and bottom posing a deadly suffocation hazard. In addition, the latching and locking mechanism can fail, causing the product to collapse, posing a risk of serious injury or deadly entrapment and fall hazards.

Products covered by this recall

This recall involves Papablic bedside sleepers, model PAPA03001AI. These convertible sleepers function as both a bassinet and a play yard and have a gray exterior with an interior printed in a stars‑and‑moon pattern. The products have "Papablic" stitched in white on the front gray fabric panel. Model "PAPA03001AI" is printed on a label sewn to the interior fabric of the bassinet underneath the mattress pad.

What to do with this product now

CPSC recalls are issued because the product can injure someone, very often a child. The safest first move is to put it out of reach rather than to carry on using it carefully.

  1. Stop using the product and move it somewhere a child or pet cannot reach it. Do not pass it on, resell it or donate it — reselling a recalled product is illegal in the United States.
  2. Check the model number, date code and any markings against the details above. Photograph them; almost every claim form asks for a picture.
  3. Follow the remedy the notice specifies. Some recalls want the product returned, some want a free repair kit fitted, and some ask you to destroy the item and send a photo as proof.
  4. Register the recall with the company before you destroy anything, unless their instructions say otherwise. Once the item is gone you may lose the evidence a refund depends on.
  5. If the product already hurt someone, file a report at SaferProducts.gov. Those reports are public and are how the CPSC spots the next hazard.

Claiming your refund, repair or replacement

The recalling company decides the remedy and funds it. You should never have to pay for a recall repair or for return shipping.

  • Use the company contact on this page first. Most firms run a dedicated recall page with an online claim form that is far quicker than their main support line.
  • Have the model number, the date code and your photos ready. Many companies issue the refund as store credit by default — ask for cash or a card reversal if you would rather have it.
  • No receipt? Say so. Refunds on recalled products are routinely paid without proof of purchase, because the hazard, not your paperwork, is what triggers the obligation.
  • If you bought it from a retailer rather than the brand, try both. Large chains such as Target, Walmart and Amazon often refund recalled goods directly from the store or order history.
  • If the company stops responding, escalate to the CPSC. Firms under a recall order have reporting duties to the agency and the pressure usually works.

Remedy named in the notice: Consumers should stop using the convertible bedside sleeper immediately and contact Papablic for a refund. Consumers will be asked to disassemble the product, cut the mattress and fabric components in half and email photos of the destroyed components to support@papablic.com. Upon receipt of proof of destruction, Papablic will issue a full refund and consumers should dispose of the product.
