What to do with this product now

CPSC recalls are issued because the product can injure someone, very often a child. The safest first move is to put it out of reach rather than to carry on using it carefully.

  1. Stop using the product and move it somewhere a child or pet cannot reach it. Do not pass it on, resell it or donate it — reselling a recalled product is illegal in the United States.
  2. Check the model number, date code and any markings against the details above. Photograph them; almost every claim form asks for a picture.
  3. Follow the remedy the notice specifies. Some recalls want the product returned, some want a free repair kit fitted, and some ask you to destroy the item and send a photo as proof.
  4. Register the recall with the company before you destroy anything, unless their instructions say otherwise. Once the item is gone you may lose the evidence a refund depends on.
  5. If the product already hurt someone, file a report at SaferProducts.gov. Those reports are public and are how the CPSC spots the next hazard.

Claiming your refund, repair or replacement

The recalling company decides the remedy and funds it. You should never have to pay for a recall repair or for return shipping.

  • Use the company contact on this page first. Most firms run a dedicated recall page with an online claim form that is far quicker than their main support line.
  • Have the model number, the date code and your photos ready. Many companies issue the refund as store credit by default — ask for cash or a card reversal if you would rather have it.
  • No receipt? Say so. Refunds on recalled products are routinely paid without proof of purchase, because the hazard, not your paperwork, is what triggers the obligation.
  • If you bought it from a retailer rather than the brand, try both. Large chains such as Target, Walmart and Amazon often refund recalled goods directly from the store or order history.
  • If the company stops responding, escalate to the CPSC. Firms under a recall order have reporting duties to the agency and the pressure usually works.

Remedy named in the notice: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled exercise bikes and contact Peloton for a free repair. Peloton is offering consumers a free seat post that can be self-installed.
